Layers

You can sort a network topology map into layers, which allows you to show and hide the map by layers.

To show/hide the layers:

  1. Navigate to Infrastructure > Topology Maps.
  2. Select a device from the drop-down list. The topology explorer is displayed with the base resource you selected and its neighbours including the connections, based on the Depth level.
  3. Click the Settings icon.
  4. Select a layer from the available layers. The selected layer is now the active layer. Note: The available layers are L1, L2 and L3.

Layer 2 (L2) Topology

Supported Gateway Version
Gateway 17.1.0

The enhanced network topology feature provides support for rendering topology maps specifically from Layer 2 (L2) nodes. The L2 topology maps provide visual representations of the network infrastructure, highlighting connections, relationships, and potential areas for optimization or troubleshooting. This capability offers customers greater flexibility in understanding the functionality and interactions of Layer 2 components within their network infrastructure.

Key Features

  • L2 Node Visualization: Experience enhanced clarity as the topology map highlights L2 nodes, enabling effortless identification and analysis of their connections, relationships, and operational characteristics.

  • Granular Insights: Delve deeper into network operations by focusing on L2 nodes, gaining comprehensive insights into data flow patterns, VLAN configurations, and the functioning of spanning tree protocols within your network infrastructure.

Benefits

  • Enhanced Troubleshooting: Swiftly pinpoint bottlenecks, loops, or misconfigurations associated with L2 nodes, facilitating faster resolution of network issues.

  • Streamlined Planning: Strategically plan network expansions, upgrades, or migrations with greater confidence, leveraging insights into the interactions and behavior of L2 components within your infrastructure.

To view more information about the Virtual Local Area Networks (VLANs) and Spanning Tree Protocol (STPs):

  1. Navigate to Infrastructure > Topology Maps.

  2. Select a device from the drop-down list. The topology explorer is displayed with the base resource you selected and its neighbours including the connections, based on the Depth level.

  3. Click the Settings icon.

  4. Select Layer 2.
The selected layer is now the active layer.

  5. Enter the Vlan ID.

  6. Click Apply.
The screen displays the L2 topology map.

  7. Click the link to view the VLAN and STPs details.

Depth

Depth refers to the level of topology you want to view. When you have many resources across multiple levels, displaying all resources is impractical. Select the level of topology you want to view for a more comprehensible view.

When you first view the topology, all base resources at the hierarchical top-level, Depth 1, are displayed. You can specify view levels up to Depth 3.
